U.S. Bang For The Canuck Buck

Posted By: Scott Lear · 8/27/2013 8:08:00 PM

Twice now this summer my girlfriend and I have vacationed south of the border.  There are a few reasons for that.  The biggest one is the all mighty dollar.  It’s just more affordable to head stateside.

Take our last little jaunt for example.  We were in Hamilton for a wedding.  What a crazy time that was, but that’s another story for another time.  We had a couple days left of vacation after the wedding so we decided to camp for a couple days.  I looked into Provincial Parks.  I haven’t camped at one in a few years.  I was rather surprised, and not in a good way, just how expensive Provincial Parks had become.  Two nights of camping would have cost us around $95!!!  Two nights on a patch of dirt somewhere.  No water, no electricity.  The rate is $42 and change per night for the site and an $11 ...

Holy Flaming Bagpipes Batman!

Posted By: Scott Lear · 7/3/2013 6:08:00 PM

Okay, so we're no stranger to hearing bagpipes in AC/DC songs.  It's A Long Way To The Top of course springs to mind.

However, I don't think we're all familiar with Thunderstruck accompanied with bagpipes.  Now how about stepping it up a notch, flaming bagpipes!

The Trews Take Headstones Route

Posted By: Scott Lear · 6/19/2013 9:26:00 PM

The Headstones decided to have the fans fund their last album with PledgeMusic.  Well I guess The Trews thought that was a pretty cool idea 'cause that's what they are doing!

Check out the video!

And here's the link to their Pledge Music page -

Maiden kicks...

... things up a notch.  I mean can this band get any cooler!

How does one kick off a festival show in style?  Have a WWII Spitfire do a fly by just before you hit the stage.

Observe!

Early Axl

Posted By: Scott Lear · 5/29/2013 7:21:00 PM

Saw this floating around the interwebs.

Axl Rose circa 1983.  Pre-GNR.  Have a listen.

No word on whether or not he was a high maintenance prima donna at the time or not...

Nimrod

Saw my first idiot on a motorbike last night.  You know the kind.  The moron who gives all riders a bad name.  Not the dude who has the Cruiser and heads out for a relaxing ride.  The one who always needs to show off whether there's anyone around to see or not.

I want to make that point perfectly clear.  This is an entry about those idiots we've all seen.  NOT, the regular dude who has a little common courtesy.

Well this knob decided that he didn’t want to be behind a car in the right lane at a light.  So when the light turned green, he passed.  On the right.  Not in a lane, just went by the car in front of him (assuming it’s a dude) on right through the intersection.  This was at Woodroffe and Fallowfield last night by the way.

I know most who ride are ...

Foo in HD

Posted By: Scott Lear · 4/17/2013 8:45:00 PM

I am a huge fan of the Foo Fighters.  Huge.  So I thought this was awesome when I saw it pop up in my Facebook feed.

The band has released via YouTube a full concert from Australia they did back in 2011.  And it's in HD baby!!!

So my fellow Foo fans, here it is.

Enjoy!

Brilliant "i" Rip-off

Posted By: Scott Lear · 3/28/2013 11:48:00 AM

I am not a huge fan of Apple or the whole "i" thing.  I have my reasons, and they aren't important right now.

This however is an apple product I can get behind.  Best Apple parody, ever!

Spring? Soon I Hope...

Posted By: Scott Lear · 3/19/2013 8:06:00 PM

Hi, my name is Scott Lear, and I have a bad case of cabin fever.

It is now Spring, at least that’s what the calendar says.  I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again.  I hate winter.  Yes hate is a strong word, but it is the right one.

Snow first fell for this winter on November 26th.  114 days ago.  3 months and 22 days.  Almost 16 weeks.  I’m beginning to think that I’m losing it.

Ah, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I have to struggle to see it some days, but there is one there.

The calendar tells me that it is now Spring.

The DQ across the street from the radio station is now open.  Patio sets are for sale (even though there’s no place in the back yard for it yet).  Soon I will be able to drive ...

Great Odin's Raven! It is on!!!

Filming has begun on Anchorman: The Legend Continues.  Well that's what IMDB is calling it.

From what I've heard the entire original cast has signed up for it, plus a couple of very cool additions.  Kristen Wiig, of SNL and Bridesmaids fame, and get this ... Harrison freakin' Ford!!!  Has Solo in Anchorman!!!

Here's a few pics from the set that I found on Buzzfeed.

It's supposed to be out this coming December.

CAN"T WAIT!!!

Kill the Groundhog!

Posted By: Scott Lear · 2/28/2013 5:15:00 PM

The little friggin' rodent let us down again.  Big shock eh?

So 25+cm of wet, heavy, slippery, paralyzing snow yesterday.  Nice.

Busses stuck, cars stuck, cars abandoned (mine among them) in the snow.  Having to push friends, co-workers and neighbours out of the slush and muck that covered the city.

Not to mention the lovely road block that the city plow lay at the end of your driveway.  The kind of hurdle that may as well have been made of concrete since it feels like it has the same mass as you struggle to make the way clear.  Those of us who have to shovel it the old fashioned way know this all too well.

I mean if you're into skiing, or your under 12, great!

What is that you're saying?  "This must be the last blast of winter ... it's almost Spring!"

Riiiight.

Let me remind you of the ...
