Jay's Jewels -- Hockey is Back

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 1/8/2013 7:19:00 AM

Those of you who listen to the morning show regularly know that I’m not a huge sports fan. Fan is short for Fanatical – I’m fanatical about wife and kid. That’s pretty much it.

I enjoy watching a little golf and a little football, maybe some baseball – provided it’s happening on a Sunday afternoon.  I don’t care about MNF or Thursday NF – I don’t care who’s in the Superbowl or who wins it. Check that – if New England is in the Superbowl I will want them to win it, but you won’t get much reaction out of me if and when they lose. Or win for that matter.

That’s pretty much it. I don’t know what channel Sportsnet is on – I think TSN is channel 30.

So while I’m not a sports fan (ergo, a hockey fan) I AM a Senators fan – because I live ...

Jay's Jewels -- Newtown, Connecticut

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 12/18/2012 7:45:00 AM

I suppose I’m kind of expected to talk about what happened in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday – so I will. I don’t want to talk about it but I will.

I’m not going to talk about how America needs tougher gun laws because it’s not an argument you’ll ever be able to win with someone who thinks teachers should be allowed to carry guns into a classroom. In all honesty I don’t even know if that’s a completely off the wall idea.

I’m not going to talk about the mental help this kid did or didn’t get. The system somehow failed him and in turn it failed the lives of 20 children and a half dozen adults – it failed America. It failed anyone with a heart or conscience in Canada or on the other side of the globe. Trust me – they’re talking about this in China.

I’m not ...

McCartney and Nirvana

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 12/13/2012 6:29:00 AM

When you hear "Paul MCCartney will perform with the surviving members of Nirvana" you assume they're jamming out a Nirvana original.

Nope.... they came up with an original. Might be called Cut Me Some Slack -- reports vary.

Here they are at the 12/12/12 concert at Madison Square Garden

FYL

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 12/11/2012 7:19:00 AM

You know what I’m getting really sick of seeing on the facebook? People posting cute kitten or baby hedgehog videos. But whatever – I just don’t watch the videos. No biggie.

No, the biggie one for me at the moment is when people write FML. I think we all know what it stands for – but for the uninformed – it stands for “F*ck My Life”.

Unless you are writing it to be clearly sarcastic – please stop. Because it’s now to the point that every time I see someone write FML I pretty much just say back – “Yes, indeed. FYL. Who needs you?”

“Power went out while watching the Dark Knight Rises. FML”. “Lots of cereal but out of milk. FML”.

First World Problems indeed – but worthy of an FML? Come on.

The whole thing really flicked off in my head on Sunday morning while strolling through ...

Got a new thing

Posted By: Gonzo · 12/10/2012 9:06:00 PM

I admittedly (briefly) panicked when I woke up Monday Morning at 7:15 am.

Normally that's a huge no-no. And not the kind of no-no that removes the mustache off the lady next door.

The GONZO SHOW (with Kaz and Jay) is no more.  Kaz and Jay are working on their own in the Mornings now, and I have moved back to where I began my tenure here in Ottawa back in January 2009.  Remember Virgin Radio? (;

Well, the guy 'who brought back the BEAR' is now back in Afternoons.

Don't forget to tune in weekday afternoon's between 2-6pm, and I'll leave the fun on for yah.

Women Are Cheaters and Men Don't Know It

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 12/6/2012 8:17:00 AM

I have some bad news for all you cheating men out there – and a reason, perhaps, why all you single sexy ladies out there can’t find anyone to ask you out.

Brand new study on cheaters out of Australia which, if accurate, also explains why there are so many women out there who find themselves saying “I just can’t find a decent guy”. And it’s also evidence, ladies, that using your gut to search out a mate is a half decent gauge.

For the record, there are probably just as many cheating women out there but we guys are just too stupid to realize when we’re being cheated on.

Researchers had 34 men and 34 women look at pictures of 189 other men and women – some were cheaters and some were not. Their past sexual history, marital status, etc wasn’t revealed. Nothing was known about these people other ...

My First Day of Full Time Parenting

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 12/4/2012 7:46:00 AM

The wife went back to work yesterday after 11 months of essentially not leaving my daughter’s side. She’s been the driving force in basically teaching Andie how to be a person. Not to say I haven’t been around for it – I get home at relatively early part of the day. But the wife’s always been there to make sure I don’t screw the child up completely. Even when I’m left with the poop machine by myself for a couple hours here and there – Mom is always texting in to see how things are going. She says it’s because she just likes to see how we’re doing – but I know that translates to “Have you dropped her”? For the record, I’ve only done that once – and it was her own fault. Seriously, why would you head bang while the Wiggles are on? God damn blue Wiggle Jeff.

Merry X-Mas

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 11/29/2012 8:51:00 PM

Yes, it’s that time of year when people start bitching about how Christmas is all of a sudden over-commercialized. I’d argue that started back when Christ was a cowboy and you could get those little Christ as a Cowboy action figures.

So why do people pretend this is a new phenomenon every year? Do we forget that easily? Is it a winter thing? The same way we all seemingly forget to drive when it starts snowing?

I, for one, welcome the commercialization of the season. Who doesn’t like getting stuff? Stuff is fun. It’s fun to put together, it’s fun to play with, to put in your mouth, to wear, to look at, to step on, to step in, to throw across the yard… stuff is fun in general. To get and to give.

Aside from commercialization, December, and Christmas time, is a wonderful time of year to bring up ...

Inspired by Lennon's Hot Bod

Posted By: Leslie Kaz · 11/29/2012 7:50:00 AM
In 1969, YOKO ONO gave John Lennon a series of sketches as a wedding gift. They were designs for clothing and accessories intended to celebrate John's "hot bod." And now you're probably thinking, "I waited 48 years for THIS?!" Yes. Yes you did.

Drunk Bohemian Rhapsody Guy Sentenced

Posted By: Jay Herrington · 11/28/2012 8:05:00 AM

Remeber this guy? The drunk guy who sang Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody in its ENTIRETY while in the back of a police cruiser?

Robert Wilkinson, from Alberta, was picked up for drinking and driving. Police forwarded him their cruiser video so he could use it in his defence in court -- he took advantage and posted it to Youtube, gathering more than 15-million hits along the way.

Anyway, Robert was just convicted for drunk driving and refusing a breath test. He's been given a 14-hundred dollar fine and a one year driving ban. About average for a first time drunk driving offence. At least he had the foresight to realize he had recorded a hit!
