It donned on me this morning; I don’t believe I have ever written a straight Bio.
I thought maybe I would play it straight for a minute. Or, at least try to. After all, I have been in Broadcasting now for almost 25 years. So, that’s a lot of BS really isn’t it?
I come from Brantford, Ontario; the Hometown of the late Phil Hartman, Tonto, Walter Gretzky, and the two guys from OLN’s “Departures.” So, obviously Brantford is a funny place.
It’s also the “Telephone City” because a guy by the name of Alex Bell moved there as a kid, and then got tired of two tin cans on a string.
Most of my family remains in the Brantford area; my Dad’s a retired Architect, my Mother used to run an Art Gallery and a Travel Business, my Sister is a Vet and my Bro’s a Stuntman -- with over a hundred Hollywood credits.
We all seem to like Horses.
We have two in fact, and my brother runs a Standard Bred Farm in Mount Pleasant, Ontario.
One of our Horses is a Half-linger, the other is a former track trotting Standard bred.
That one is tough on the stones!
We all like to spend time at our home- away- from- home -- in the Haliburton Highlands.
I play Hockey and Ski in the Winter, and attempt to Golf & Bike in the Summer. I’ve almost got my Brown Belt in Goju-ryu Karate, but haven’t trained in years.
You can often find me on my property with some type of weapon in my hands. These days, usually a chainsaw.
Otherwise, I drink beer in my garage, and then hit the heavy bag when I get drunk. My neighbours like my garage.
My wife and her family are also from Brantford.
We have 3 young girls, all under the age of 10.
Yes, we’re busy. And yes they grow up fast.
I graduated from Humber College, Radio Broadcasting, in Toronto, with some people who have made a name for themselves in this business (including our very own Wendy Daniels).
I have worked in 7 markets; including 10 years (all toll) at 97.7 HTZ-FM (Niagara), 7 years at Q107 (Toronto), as well as London, Saskatoon, Leamington, Simcoe -- and now almost 4 here in Ottawa.
I have also been the National Voice for Safeway, Princess Auto, BMG Music, Honda, Tre Stella, CD Warehouse and I was the Stadium Announcer at Skydome for the Toronto Argonauts (2002 & 2003 seasons).
I love to read History. My favourite writers are James McPherson and Wilbur Smith.
Anyway, there are some straight facts.
I must say I have always enjoyed the privilege of having a voice -- in a City of hundreds of thousands.
Tomorrow -- I will be Marconi and sleep with Tesla’s wife again.
